The table above compares only differentiating features. Core capabilities such as remote access, scripting, and Windows patch management are shared by all ten products and are documented in the subsequent section. Each column is defined as follows:

  • Native PSA/ticketing bundled with RMM: The vendor includes helpdesk ticketing, billing, and contract management in the same first-party platform as its RMM, without requiring a separate PSA subscription or add-on module.
  • Native mobile app (iOS/Android): The vendor publishes its own technician app on the Apple App Store or Google Play for viewing alerts and managing devices from a phone. Capabilities vary; some apps support full remote remediation, while others focus on alerts and ticket updates.
  • On-premises/self-hosted option: Customers can install the management server on their own infrastructure instead of using the vendor’s cloud, which matters for data residency and compliance requirements.
  • SNMP network device monitoring: The platform can poll agentless network devices such as routers, switches, firewalls, and printers over the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) and raise alerts on their status.
  • Native ransomware detection/rollback: The vendor provides its own module that detects ransomware behavior on endpoints and, where offered, restores affected files.
  • Native AV/EDR under own brand: The vendor sells antivirus or endpoint detection and response (EDR) under its own brand or corporate family, rather than only through third-party marketplace integrations.

Pricing comparison

  • Atera publishes prices for three of its four MSP tiers: Pro at $129, Growth at $159, and Power at $209 per technician per month on annual billing ($139, $189, and $249 billed monthly), while the top Superpower tier is quote-based.1
  • Syncro charges $129 per technician per month for its Core plan and $179 for its Team plan on annual billing ($159 and $209 billed monthly), with unlimited endpoints on both.2
  • NinjaOne publishes only the two ends of its volume range, from $3.75 per device per month at 50 or fewer devices down to $1.50 at 10,000 or more, and quotes prices in between.3
  • ConnectWise RMM, N-able N-central, Kaseya VSA, Datto RMM, SuperOps and Pulseway do not publish standard tier pricing. These vendors operate on a quote-based sales model with custom pricing based on endpoint count, region, and module selection.

Atera and other alternatives

Atera

Atera charges per technician and includes unlimited managed endpoints on every tier. Its AI features include Robin, which Atera describes as an agent that resolves end-user IT requests without a technician, and an AI Copilot that runs device health checks and diagnostics from the console.4

Pros:

  • Unlimited endpoints are included on every plan tier because licensing is per technician, not per device.
  • The agent supports Windows, macOS, and Linux devices, and other devices can be monitored via SNMP and other supported protocols.5

Cons:

  • Linux patch management uses the APT package manager and supports only Ubuntu 18 or later and Debian 11 or later.6
  • The Windows agent supports 64-bit (x64) systems only; 32-bit Windows and Windows on ARM devices are not supported.7
  • Every technician needs a paid license, so costs rise with headcount, which makes Atera less economical for teams with many technicians relative to the number of endpoints they manage.

NinjaOne

NinjaOne MSP plan includes NinjaOne PSA, and its patching uses what NinjaOne calls Patch Intelligence AI to block bad updates before deployment. Per-device pricing costs less than per-technician pricing for teams with many technicians relative to the devices they manage.

Pros:

  • Patching covers Windows, macOS, Linux, and third-party applications from one console.8
  • Unlimited support, onboarding, and training are included at no additional charge.

Cons:

  • Backup is priced separately on a per-device basis and requires its own quote, rather than being included in the base RMM license.

Syncro

Syncro manages Microsoft 365 tenants from the same console as its RMM and PSA: technicians can map client tenants, sync Entra ID users, reset a user’s password or MFA without leaving Syncro, apply security baselines to each tenant with one-click fixes for failed rules, and bill clients for Microsoft licenses.9 Syncro describes these baselines as CIS-aligned. This makes it a fit for MSPs that manage many client M365 tenants and want to avoid a separate tenant management tool.

Pros:

  • A Linux agent extends coverage to a third OS family alongside Windows and Mac, officially supporting RHEL and Ubuntu LTS across 64-bit x86 and arm64 architectures.10

Cons:

  • The Mac agent does not support several Windows-only capabilities, including OS patch management, third-party application management, event log monitoring, native blue-screen/crash checks, service/process monitors, and Emsisoft managed antivirus.11

SuperOps

SuperOps’ built-in AI assistant, Monica, recommends ticket resolutions based on past tickets and knowledge base articles, summarizes tickets and worklogs, and generates scripts from plain-language descriptions.12 Its per-technician plans include 150 endpoints per technician.

Pros:

  • The agent supports three OS families from one console: Windows 8.1/Server 2012 R2 and newer, macOS 10.15 and newer (Rosetta required), and 64-bit Linux distributions including Ubuntu 16.04+, Fedora 35+, Debian 10.1+, RHEL 7.4+, SUSE, and Raspberry Pi.13

Cons:

  • SuperOps does not offer antivirus/EDR or ransomware rollback under its own brand, so endpoint security must be added through third-party integrations.

ConnectWise RMM

ConnectWise RMM’s main difference is that it is backed by ConnectWise’s own service teams. Windows OS security updates are assessed by the NOC before deployment, and monitoring includes NOC-tuned alert conditions out of the box. Remote access runs through ScreenConnect, and AI-assisted script generation helps technicians build remediation scripts. It fits MSPs that already use ConnectWise PSA and ScreenConnect.

Pros:

  • The package includes ConnectWise’s reporting dashboards (formerly BrightGauge) and security dashboards with vulnerability management.
  • Integration with ConnectWise PSA, and RPA workflow automation are included in the package.

Cons:

  • NOC services, outsourced help desk, attended ScreenConnect Remote Support, and deeper network monitoring are paid add-ons on top of the RMM package.14

N-able N-central

N-able N-central is available both on-premises and as a hosted service, and includes a drag-and-drop Automation Manager for building scripts without code.15 N-able sells its own EDR, built with partner SentinelOne, which can roll back devices after a ransomware attack. It suits MSPs and IT departments that must keep the management server on their own infrastructure.

Pros:

  • Agents support Windows Server 2012 R2, so MSPs with clients on older servers can keep them under management.16
  • Patch approvals can be set by individual patch, device, or CVSS score, and patching covers Windows, Linux, third-party, and out-of-band updates without writing scripts.

Cons:

  • 64-bit Linux installations require a separate “Independent Agent” architecture, and openssh must be installed on the endpoint for device discovery to work.
  • Extended data retention beyond 90 days (Analytics Insights at 1 year, Analytics Compliance at 7 years) requires a separate paid upgrade.17

Kaseya VSA

Kaseya VSA 10 is the latest version of Kaseya’s VSA RMM. It uses policies to automate endpoint configuration, maintenance, patching, and incident response. Kaseya packages VSA 10 in Kaseya 365 Endpoint, a single subscription that also includes Datto AV, Datto EDR, third-party patching, and endpoint backup with 5 TB of shared storage. It fits MSPs that would rather buy RMM, endpoint security, and backup on one contract than assemble them from separate add-ons.

Pros:

  • The agent supports a wide range of Linux and Unix systems, including RHEL, CentOS, Oracle Linux, Fedora, SUSE, AlmaLinux, Arch, FreeBSD, and pfSense.18
  • MDM is native to VSA 10, so mobile and Apple device profiles are configured inside the core console rather than requiring a bolted-on module.

Cons:

  • RocketCyber MDR/SOC is limited to the Kaseya 365 Endpoint “Pro” tier and excluded from the lower “Express” tier.19

Datto RMM

Datto RMM, part of Kaseya, is a cloud-based RMM. Datto’s ComStore offers application installers, scripts, and monitors that Datto produces, tests in-house, and officially supports. It suits MSPs that want ready-made automation that the vendor tests and supports. It integrates closely with Autotask PSA and Datto backup.

Pros:

  • When Ransomware Detection isolates a device from the network, the device stays reachable through Datto RMM and Web Remote, so technicians can still work on it remotely.20

Cons:

  • Linux support is limited: the agent runs only on recent releases of five distributions (not RHEL 8, SUSE, Rocky Linux, or AlmaLinux), needs Mono’s full development package (mono-devel) rather than just the runtime, and does not run on 32-bit ARM.21
  • Built-in patch management covers only Windows. macOS and Linux are updated through ComStore components instead, and the macOS component relies on a third-party tool.22

Pulseway

Pulseway’s mobile app lets technicians patch endpoints, start remote control sessions, and run scripts from iOS or Android. Security, ticketing, NOC/help desk, and backup are sold as add-ons to the base RMM, and the server can be self-hosted.23

Pros:

  • Monitoring covers Windows, Mac, Linux, network devices, and IoT from one console.
  • Built-in patch management covers Windows, macOS, and Linux operating systems, plus a catalog of third-party Windows applications.24

Cons:

  • Antivirus, ransomware detection, ticketing, NOC/help desk, and backup are paid add-ons.

Common features across Atera alternatives

All ten products cover the capabilities below, although depth varies by vendor.

Remote monitoring and alerting

Continuous, real-time collection of endpoint health data (CPU, memory, disk, services, uptime) across managed devices, with automated alerts triggered when a monitored condition is breached.

Remote access and control

Technicians can open a remote desktop session to a managed endpoint to troubleshoot or resolve an issue without the end user present.

Patch management for Windows and third-party applications

Automated scanning for missing OS and third-party software patches, with policy-based scheduling, approval, and staged rollout of updates. Support for macOS and Linux patching varies by vendor.

Scripting and automation

Administrators can run scripts (PowerShell, Bash, or similar) on managed endpoints and schedule or automatically trigger them, including software deployment and maintenance tasks.

Hardware and software asset inventory

Automatic collection and display of each endpoint’s installed hardware components, operating system, and installed applications.

How to choose the right Atera alternative

Per-technician versus per-device pricing fit

  • Atera, Syncro, and SuperOps charge per technician and include unlimited endpoints (Atera, Syncro) or an allowance of 150 endpoints per technician (SuperOps). This model favors teams with few technicians managing large or growing device fleets, because adding endpoints adds little or no cost.
  • NinjaOne’s per-device model favors teams with many technicians relative to the devices they manage, or teams planning to hire, because adding technicians adds no license cost and the per-device rate falls to $1.50 at 10,000 or more endpoints.

Native PSA versus existing PSA integration

  • Organizations without a PSA, or seeking to consolidate billing, ticketing, and RMM into a single login, should prioritize Atera, Syncro, SuperOps, or NinjaOne, which bundle native PSA modules.2526
  • Organizations already invested in Autotask PSA or ConnectWise PSA should evaluate Datto RMM or ConnectWise RMM respectively, which are built to integrate with those PSAs rather than replace them.2714

Cross-platform patch management depth

Teams with macOS or Linux fleets should check whether each vendor patches those systems natively or relies on scripts.

  • NinjaOne patches Windows, macOS, and Linux natively.8
  • N-able N-central patches Windows and Linux natively, with macOS patching in Public Preview.28
  • Datto RMM‘s built-in patch management works only on Windows, with macOS updates handled through a ComStore component.22
  • Atera patches Linux only on Ubuntu and Debian, and Linux patches must be installed manually.6
  • Syncro‘s Mac agent has no OS or third-party patch management.11

On-premise deployment for compliance

  • Atera, NinjaOne, Syncro, SuperOps, ConnectWise RMM, and Datto RMM are cloud-only, which rules them out for teams with strict data residency or air-gapped requirements.
  • N-able N-central, Kaseya VSA, and Pulseway support on-premise installation.1523

Hi all, Gene Moody Field CTO for Action1 here. I always find it interesting when people compare us to product offerings outside our market space and mark what we "do not have". As noted we are a Patch Management Solution, and do not advertise to aspire to be an RMM, PSA, ticketing system, etc. No plans to anytime soon. So should argue the merits of for instance VNC against these because its a remote access software, or freshdesk?

Hi Gene, thanks for clarifying, we are removing Action1 from this page. It would be great if you touch base with your marketing team though. Here: https://www.action1.com/software-for-msps/, this is how they describe working with Action1: "Deliver high-class customer service from anywhere in the world by utilizing cloud RMM software for managed services providers." And they list Action1 as an Atera alternative here: https://www.action1.com/blog/comparison/atera-alternatives/
