- Both Bright Data and IPRoyal returned a UDP 0x07 error, indicating that unsupported commands or protocol issues were encountered.
- Decodo, and Oxylabs experienced UDP proxy errors due to unexpected connection closures.
- Oxylabs clarified that their proxies support application-layer protocols (HTTP, HTTPS, SOCKS5) and do not handle lower-layer (Layer 3/4) TCP/UDP connections directly.

SOCKS5 proxies benchmark methodology
Each provider under test receives a request every 5 minutes. SOCKS5 is tested on residential IPs against Amazon, Bing, eBay, and YouTube. A request passes if it clears 2 checks:
- Status check: the response returns a code in the 200–399 range.
- Content check: the HTML contains the expected platform-specific CSS selector, and the response body is large enough to be a real page.
Providers return a 200 OK status even when a request is blocked. For example, a CAPTCHA page, soft block, or empty page can look like success but give no useful content. We count them as failures.
Calculations:
- Success rate: the share of all requests clearing both checks.
- Response time: measured from request start to final byte, averaged over successful requests. Requests hitting the 60-second timeout, and requests returning errors, are excluded so failures don’t distort the latency figure.
