An IPv6 proxy routes traffic through an IPv6 exit address, but IPv6 support does not mean the same thing across proxy providers. A vendor may support IPv6 on its residential network, expose both IPv4 and IPv6 through a mixed pool, or allow users to request IPv6 addresses.

Bright Data supports IPv6 on its residential proxy network. Bright Data offers two residential IPv6 pool types:
- Combined IPv4 + IPv6 residential pool, also called the mega pool
- IPv6-only shared rotating residential proxies
The provider supports IPv6-only shared rotating residential proxies, making it more relevant to IPv6-specific buyers.
Residential IPv6 proxies do not support selected ASN targeting, ZIP code targeting, explicit IP targeting, mobile carrier targeting, or explicit operating system targeting. If users include these parameters in a proxy username while the zone is set to IPv6, Bright Data ignores them and processes the request.

IPv6 availability can be limited in smaller countries or cities. Since Decodo does not share a list of where IPv6 is available at the country or city level, it is a good idea to test your target locations before making a decision.

Residential IPv6 proxies
All four providers in this comparison offer IPv6 within their residential proxy products, but their routing controls differ.
Bright Data provides both a mixed IPv4+IPv6 residential pool and an IPv6-only shared pool. Oxylabs lets residential users explicitly request IPv6 addresses with its IP-version filter.
Decodo supports IPv6 filtering on its residential pool. NodeMaven provides residential IPv6 through a mixed IPv4/IPv6 pool but does not currently document an IPv6-only option.
Datacenter IPv6 proxies
Datacenter IPv6 availability is more limited among the providers compared here.
Oxylabs explicitly supports IPv4 and IPv6 on its dedicated datacenter proxies. Bright Data states that its IPv6 support is currently limited to the residential network and does not extend to its datacenter or ISP proxy networks.
Rotating vs sticky IPv6 proxies
IP version and session behavior are separate settings. An IPv6 proxy can still be rotating or session-based depending on the underlying proxy product.
Bright Data’s IPv6 residential product is a shared rotating pool. NodeMaven’s residential and mobile products support per-request rotation as well as sticky sessions. For providers that expose separate IP-version and session parameters, selecting IPv6 should not be assumed to change the rotation model.

Bright Data supports automatic failover from IPv6 to IPv4 when the target does not publish an IPv6 address; this behavior is enabled by default and can be disabled. If failover is disabled, an IPv4 target returns an error.
Oxylabs similarly states that a residential proxy request using its IPv6 filter may automatically resolve through IPv4 when the target does not support IPv6.
IPv6 geo-targeting
Bright Data does not support several targeting parameters in its residential IPv6 product, including ASN and ZIP code targeting. Oxylabs allows its residential IPv6 filter to be combined with location parameters, but warns that narrower combinations such as city or ZIP targeting can reduce availability.
