Best Japan Proxies: Success Rate & Response Time

We evaluated top Japan residential proxies across 1,000 URLs per domain every 10 minutes. Vendors were measured against the same target domains, from the same benchmark location, using the same request frequency and URL rotation strategy.

Overall, the top providers performed closely enough that most buyers should not choose based on success rate alone. Instead, the best Japan proxy provider depends on what you need most: granular targeting in Japan, lower pricing, enterprise support, or consistent performance across protected targets.

Japan proxy benchmark result

The benchmark results show that Apify, Decodo, and Oxylabs performed similarly in terms of success rate.

Webshare and DataImpulse showed lower success rates in comparison. That does not necessarily make them poor choices, but it does mean they are better suited to use cases where cost matters more than maximum reliability, or where the target websites are less sensitive to proxy quality.

Compare the top 5 Japan proxies

Oxylabs is the strongest fit for enterprise teams that need advanced targeting, higher traffic volumes, and support. For Japan proxy buyers, the main advantage is targeting depth. Oxylabs supports detailed geolocation targeting, including ZIP-level options.

Oxylabs also becomes more compelling as traffic volume increases, which makes it better suited to teams that know their traffic requirements and can commit to higher usage.

Choose Oxylabs if:

  • You need ZIP-level Japan targeting.
  • You need stronger support, account management, or enterprise purchasing.

Decodo offers Japan proxies with city/ZIP targeting. You can start without a large enterprise commitment while still accessing granular targeting for use cases where country-level targeting in Japan is insufficiently precise.

Choose Decodo if:

  • You need residential proxies in Japan with ZIP-level targeting.
  • You want a balanced option between low-cost providers and enterprise platforms.

Webshare is best positioned as a budget-friendly, self-serve option for proxy testing in Japan. Webshare is a good fit when country or city-level targeting in Japan is enough.

Choose Webshare if:

  • You want a low-cost Japan proxy option.
  • Country or city-level targeting is enough.

DataImpulse is one of the lower-cost residential proxy options. Its main appeal is price, especially for buyers who need Japanese residential traffic but do not want to commit to a more expensive provider.

The important distinction is targeting depth. Country-level targeting may be enough for many use cases, but more granular filters, such as city, state, ZIP code, or ASN, may be available with certain plan types or premium options. In the benchmark, DataImpulse showed lower success rates than Apify, Decodo, and Oxylabs.

Choose DataImpulse if:

  • You want low-cost Japan residential traffic.
  • You mainly need country-level targeting.

Apify is a good fit when you are using Apify Actors, Crawlee, or hosted scraping jobs. The main advantage is workflow convenience: proxy configuration, sessions, usage tracking, and scraping infrastructure live in the same environment.

Apify supports country targeting for Japan, which is sufficient for many scraping and localization tasks. However, it should not be presented as the best option for native-Japanese ZIP-level targeting. If your project requires precise ZIP-level targeting in Japan, Decodo and Oxylabs are better fits.

Choose Apify if:

  • Your crawlers run on Apify.
  • You want the proxy setup handled inside the same scraping platform.
  • Country-level targeting in Japan is enough.

How to choose a Japan proxy provider

Decide how precise the location needs to be. If you need Japanese IPs, country-level targeting is enough. If you are testing local ads, store availability, SERP localization, or region-specific pricing, city or ZIP-level targeting becomes more important.

Estimate traffic volume. A provider that looks expensive at 1GB may become competitive at 1TB, while a low-cost pay-as-you-go plan may be better for small or irregular projects.

Match the proxy type to the target. Residential proxies are usually safer for protected websites and localized content, while datacenter proxies can be cheaper for high-volume, lower-risk tasks.

Test against your real target. Proxy benchmarks are useful, but success rates vary by website, request pattern, headers, session handling, authentication, and concurrency.

Japan proxy benchmark methodology

All vendors are tested against the same set of target domains, using the same request frequency, URL pool, and benchmark location. This ensures that performance comparisons are based on proxy quality and delivery consistency rather than differences in test setup.

Request frequency and URL rotation

Each vendor sends one request to the same target URL every 10 minutes. For each domain, the benchmark uses a pool of 1,000 URLs. Individual URLs are rotated so that each URL is used approximately once per week.

Benchmark location

The benchmark is executed from the EU West region. Using a consistent benchmark location is important because proxy performance can vary with routing, latency, regional availability, and how target websites handle traffic from different geographies. Keeping the benchmark location fixed ensures that differences in vendor performance are not caused by changes in the testing origin.

Domains used

The following domains are currently active in the Japan residential proxy benchmark:

  • amazon.co.jp: Amazon Japan is included among the major e-commerce targets.
  • item.rakuten.co.jp: Rakuten is one of Japan’s largest e-commerce platforms.
  • store.shopping.yahoo.co.jp: Yahoo Shopping is included as another major Japanese e-commerce property.
  • jp.mercari.com: Mercari Japan is included to represent consumer-to-consumer marketplace traffic.
  • search.yahoo.co.jp: Unlike Google and Bing, Yahoo Japan does not appear to apply the same level of aggressive residential proxy blocking in this test environment. In the benchmark, Yahoo Japan has produced strong results, with a success rate of approximately 98.9%.
