GeoSurf has permanently ceased operations as of December 20, 2023, following a legal defeat against Bright Data in patent litigation. Subsequently, GeoSurf announced its shutdown and is directing its customers to Bright Data, exiting the proxy business by December 22, 2023.

Because GeoSurf is no longer operating, readers should not use this page as a current buying guide for GeoSurf itself. Instead, it is most useful for understanding what GeoSurf used to offer and how its capabilities compare with active proxy providers.

GeoSurf overview

Before shutting down, GeoSurf offered several proxy categories, including residential, datacenter, ISP, and mobile proxies.

Historically, GeoSurf expanded beyond localization testing to include data collection and related use cases, such as social media monitoring. Since the service has been discontinued, these capabilities should be treated as historical product information rather than as currently available features.

Since GeoSurf’s shutdown, leading proxy and web data vendors have shifted toward AI-agent-ready data tooling alongside traditional proxy access.

For example, Bright Data’s January 2026 updates introduced custom MCP configuration, one-click MCP connections for AI tools, minimum session-lifetime controls for residential proxies, and expanded ISP proxy capacity.

GeoSurf features & capabilities

Since GeoSurf is no longer operating, the feature, pricing, and review information below should be interpreted as historical context, not as a description of a currently purchasable service.

Other features

GeoSurf provides more features to ensure users’ control over network routing and selection. Some of these features include:

Authentication methods

GeoSurf supports username/password authentication, ensuring secure access to their proxy network. Users receive login credentials to establish a secure connection to the proxy servers.

ASN-Level Targeting

GeoSurf offers ASN-level targeting, allowing users to select proxies based on Autonomous System Numbers (ASNs).

Realistic testing environments:

GeoSurf enables users to mimic real user behavior by accessing websites and services from the vantage point of various ISPs, allowing websites and applications to perform optimally for users in different geographic regions.

Full page screenshots

Capture entire web pages in one click, saving screenshots of publishers’ and advertisers’ websites that include both the content above and below the visible screen area. Generate multiple screenshots from different locations, facilitating the efficient sharing of geo-targeted content with clients and colleagues.

Data collection API

GeoSurf offers a low-code real-time data collection API to seamlessly acquire data from publicly available sources directly as a data feed or Rest API. With GeoSurf, users can select a specific domain and country, determine the frequency of data collection (e.g. real-time or scheduled at any preferred intervals) and choose a method to receive the data (Webhook, Google Cloud, Amazon S3, JSON format).

Pricing

GeoSurf’s former pricing structure is now historical and should not be used for purchasing decisions, because the service has been discontinued. Organizations evaluating proxy vendors in 2026 should consult the current pricing pages of active providers instead.
