The term IPv6 proxy does not describe a single product type. Vendors may provide IPv6 support for residential, datacenter, ISP proxies, or combinations. For example, some proxy vendors support IPv6-only residential routing but do not offer IPv6 for datacenter or ISP proxies.

We measured providers’ performance across residential and datacenter proxies to evaluate the network quality of IPv6-capable vendors.

IPv6 proxy availability by provider

*IPv6-only selection means the buyer can force traffic through IPv6 addresses instead of using a mixed or automatic IPv4/IPv6 pool.

IPv6 proxy provider benchmark

This benchmark measures residential proxy performance. Use it to check network quality for IPv6-capable vendors. Do not use it as an IPv6-only speed test.

Pros and cons of IPv6 proxy services

Bright Data supports IPv6 on its residential proxy network. Bright Data offers two residential IPv6 pool types:

  1. Combined IPv4 + IPv6 residential pool, also called the mega pool
  2. IPv6-only shared rotating residential proxies

This is important because the proxy provider not supports mixed IPv4/IPv6 residential routing. It also supports IPv6-only shared rotating residential proxies, making it more relevant to IPv6-specific buyers.

Residential IPv6 proxies do not support selected gIP targeting, ASN targeting, ZIP code targeting, explicit IP targeting, mobile carrier targeting, or explicit operating system targeting. If users include these parameters in a proxy username while the zone is set to IPv6, Bright Data ignores them and processes the request.

Pros:

  • IPv6-only residential pools
  • Mixed IPv4 + IPv6 residential pools
  • Zone-level switching
  • Equal IPv4/IPv6 pricing

Cons:

  • IPv6 is not available for datacenter or ISP proxies
  • Some targeting options are unavailable for residential IPv6

Oxylabs supports IPv6 for residential and dedicated datacenter proxies. You can filter residential proxies for IPv6 addresses only. Dedicated datacenter proxies support both IPv6 and IPv4. IPv6-only filtering is not available for datacenter proxies.

With Oxylabs residential IPv6 IP addresses, you can target by country, state, city, ZIP code, continent, ASN, or coordinates. You can also combine these filters with the IPv6-only option.

Some filter combinations are not always available. IPv6 with city, ZIP code, ASN, or coordinates may have limited proxy availability. Oxylabs does not charge extra for IPv6 residential proxy traffic. The price depends on how much traffic you use, not the IP version.

Pros:

  • IPv6-only residential filtering
  • IPv6-capable dedicated datacenter proxies

Cons:

  • IPv6 with city, ZIP code, ASN, or coordinates may not always be available.
  • Datacenter proxies support IPv4 and IPv6. IPv6-only filtering is not available.

Decodo supports IPv6 filtering for residential and mobile proxies, but the feature must be enabled first. It is not available by default. For residential proxies, users can force IPv6-only routing.

For residential and mobile proxies, Decodo supports combining IPv6 with geo-targeting. Supported targeting options include country, city, state for the United States, ZIP code for the United States, and ASN targeting.

IPv6 availability can be limited in smaller countries or cities. Since Decodo does not share a list of where IPv6 is available at the country or city level, it is a good idea to test your target locations before making a decision.

Pros:

  • Compatibility with country, city, US state, US ZIP, and ASN targeting.
  • IPv6 residential proxies use the same pricing as regular plans.

Cons:

  • Whitelisted IP authentication supports IPv4 only.
  • IPv6 availability may be limited for smaller countries or cities.

How to buy IPv6 proxies

Which proxy networks support IPv6?

Check which proxy networks support IPv6 before buying. Support depends on the product. Some providers offer IPv6 for residential proxies but not for datacenter, ISP, or mobile proxies. Bright Data supports IPv6 on residential proxies only. Decodo offers IPv6 filtering for residential and mobile proxies. Its datacenter and ISP proxies are IPv4 only.

Is IPv6-only routing available?

Check if the provider supports IPv6-only routing. Some proxies use mixed IPv4 and IPv6 pools or automatically choose the protocol. This may not work for testing or compliance. Oxylabs lets you enforce IPv6 routing with the ipversion-6 parameter. Decodo uses the ipv-6 parameter for IPv6-only routing.

Ask what happens if you use an IPv6 proxy with an IPv4-only target. Some vendors return an error if the target does not support IPv6. Others switch to IPv4 automatically. This affects benchmarking because fallback can make a test look successful even if IPv6 was not used.

Which targeting options are available?

IPv6 location targeting can be limited. IPv6 is not as widely available as IPv4 in some countries or cities. Decodo says IPv6 can be restricted in smaller countries or cities. Oxylabs notes that proxy pools change, so options such as IPv6 with ZIP code, ASN, or coordinates may not always be available.

Are IPv4 and IPv6 priced the same?

Some vendors charge the same rate for IPv6 and IPv4 traffic, while others price IPv6 separately depending on the product. Oxylabs, Bright Data, and Decodo say that IPv6 residential traffic uses standard residential proxy pricing, but you should always check the price for your chosen proxy type and plan.

What are IPv6 proxies?

IPv6 proxies are proxy servers that route requests through IPv6 addresses. IPv6 is the newer version of the Internet Protocol and was designed to solve IPv4 address exhaustion by providing a much larger address space. IPv6 proxies can be residential, datacenter, ISP, or mobile proxies.

Perguntas frequentes

Not necessarily. Some providers charge IPv6 residential traffic at the same rate as IPv4 traffic, while datacenter IPv6 pricing may follow a different model, such as per IP or per GB.

No. IPv6 support varies by provider and proxy type. Some providers support IPv6 only for residential proxies, while others may support IPv6 for datacenter or mobile proxies. Some providers do not support IPv6 at all.

Not always. IPv6 proxies offer a larger address space and can be useful for IPv6-compatible targets, but performance, availability, and detection risk depend on the proxy type, provider, and target website.
